Words to live by

Sunday - hung over again. Legitimately going to stop drinking for a while, getting kinda dumb and doing dumb shit like sitting in a parking lot talking to weird girls till 4 a.m.

Nigel Sylvester cops a lot of flak online for being a bit of a goof ball. He does say some shit on twitter which is just kinda cringe worthy. But yeah, you cannot forget he is a good bmx rider - if you don't believe me watch his Animal Cuts part; he was coping shit even back then but the stuff he does in that part is top notch in my opinion.

Anyways, this video below is cool: it features Nigel talking about East Coast BMX, the company Animal Bikes, and the role Animal has played in that scene. I remember watching this in a computer lab at Uni in 2012 and being struck by something Nigel said towards the end of it, he says:

"Things that you naturally gravitate towards in life are usually right. The feeling it gives you, the mindset it puts you in… defines it all. Sometimes you have to follow that feeling and explore those callings to fully understand its meaning - because those very emotions can be the turning point in your life."

This struck a chord with me at the time as I felt I was on the verge of doing something fun and that I actually wanted to do again. I was in the final semester of a course at a Uni I hated and I think through that experience of doing something I hate I learnt how important it is to just do things that feel right.

In fact, Nigel's line is so good, and the delivery of it so perfect I can't help but think it might be scripted - haha, like written by somebody else or co-authored. But nah, I don't really think that.

Also, I saw my friend on Facebook post a Shakespeare quote which is kinda along the same lines: "This above all: to thine own self be true." (Hamlet).
